Stories of Resilience in the Face of Chaos

In March, COVID-19 shut down America, beginning months of hardship for many.  Now, facing a second wave of the virus, it seems like the world continues to only share bad news and we are all looking for a little bit of sunshine.

To that end, we have been hearing great successes from some of our association clients that have demonstrated tremendous leadership in the face of recent challenges.  We hope that you see these stories as a source of inspiration and motivation to get through the months ahead.

One association is leading as an educational resource for their members:

At this point we’re currently in a solid but fluid position. We’ve had good success with providing content during the pandemic and shifting things to virtual. We’ve received strong feedback about our efforts and members seem to be doing well – especially in contrast to other industries. Our revenue is steady and expenses are down slightly…our members and staff have been resilient so far, and if we see a turn for the better in the next few months we may come out of this even stronger.

Another found success in moving their Annual Meeting to a virtual format:

Regarding the virtual Annual Session, that definitely went over well and was extremely well-received by our members.  We provided it as a value-added, no-cost benefit to our members, which I think really went a long way to making them feel loved.

Some are inspiring their members with fresh taglines:

Working with our members right now on the mantra of “Improvise – Adapt – Overcome.”

We have also seen overall data-focused wins:

Some of the ‘quick wins’ you suggested have helped the members now see the value of [our] membership.  We’re sending out more timely updates (yay!) and they are looking to our organization to be the leader in what is going on right now, which is a breath of fresh air.

While others are changing their entire organizations:

Since we last spoke, there has been a change to my group. I am now part of a Reporting Team, headed by [the] Director of Data Analytics. There are 4 of us, charged with expanding reporting throughout the organization…  Your member survey analysis is a big part of our strategy. At least once a week, people ask me questions about the data.

This sampling of clients represents the courage, compassion, and flexibility needed during a crisis.  We hop that these inspire you as you move forward.  As always, we are here for you.  With any questions or help developing your own data-driven strategy or taking a pulse of your members, contact us.
